Launch of the 'grand son-in-law'-Ramcharan

It was an initiation of sorts for actor Ram Charan Tej into Upasana Kamineni's family as the actor made his first public appearance with Prathap C Reddy, the founder and Sangita Reddy, MD of the hospital group.

The actor, who even cheerfully took the 'Apollo' oath, went on to cement relationships with "Prathap thatha" and "Sangita aunty". However, it was quite disappointing to see his soon-to-be- fiancee, Upasana, missing at the event. While Sangita introduced Charan as the "new member of the Apollo family", Prathap went a step ahead, welcoming his "grand son-in-law".

Charan on his part floored the crowd as he greeted them in Telugu, English and Malayalam. "Ninety-three per cent of the staff here is from Kerala," stated the actor who obviously had done his homework well. A beaming Charan went on... "I feel honored to be here and be part of the Go Green initiative. I can be a doctor, nurse or paramedic in a movie, but I cannot do it in real life. So, my contribution for the cause is to spread awareness for this initiative across the state. Coming from a filmi family, I now have to adjust myself to be part of a larger and much bigger health care family."

Recalling his family's 30-year association with founder Prathap C Reddy, Charan said, "The love and affection showered on me by Prathap thatha has filled the void left by my grandparents."

Mamta Mohandas to marry her childhood friend

Reigning Malayalam actress Mamta Mohandas is happily looking forward to getting married and settling down with a childhood friend.

The last few years have been tough for Mamta as she fought cancer. She is enjoying her new lease of life with great positivity.

She is also excited about returning to Tamil films with an exciting role in Thaidaiyarai Thaaka. She reveals, “I am dating an entrepreneur and it’s not a filmy kind romance where he proposed with roses. It was actually a bond that developed over the years. In fact, he is also very close to my father. I used to visit my family in Bahrain for holidays and he used to join me there.”

She adds, “Eventually, we realised that we are made for each other as we share a lot of common interests and resolved to take our relationship to the next level. With family approving the relationship, we are thinking of settling down next year.” she adds.

If she is busy shooting in Kerala, while he is working in Bahrain, one wonders how their courtship works. “We met a couple of times, but we are mostly in touch on the phone. He’s not a movie buff as such but he’s watched a couple of my movies,” she says.

Just two years ago, her life was totally different as a 22-year-old girl diagnosed with cancer. She went through turbulent times in getting her cancer treated, but emerged a winner.

“I had to cut off my hair. Some thought it was a style statement. It is tough to undergo such painful treatments like chemotherapy and radiation. But one must realise that without a struggle there is no victory. This is my life’s philosophy,” she says sounding much older than her years.

The disease has made her stronger and more positive. “I have lots of things to do and I don’t like wasting time on negative thoughts. I have conquered my ego and like to lead a simple life. A positive attitude makes both your mind and body healthy and, as a bonus, attracts good things around you,” she says.

Her Mollywood career is rocking with 16-odd films including hits like Anwar, Passenger and she has bagged awards for a riveting performance in Katha Thudarunnu.

“It’s a valiant story about a girl who moves ahead in life with just hope and nothing else. My upcoming films are Gnanam and Entha Family with Jayaram and a path-breaking film with Shyam Prasad,” she says.

It seems like the actress’ second innings will be much more happening than her first.

A temple for Hansika Motwani?

Madurai, the temple town of Tamil Nadu known for its rich culture and tradition, has a special affinity for film stars.

The passionate fans there go to any extent to express their adoration for their favourite actresses, including building temples for them and worshipping them as demigods. It was Kushbhoo and Namitha earlier, now their loyalties have shifted to glam doll Hansika, who is the most ‘happening’ star in K’town.

According to sources Hansika was approached recently by a group of fans from Maduari who expressed their desire to build a temple for the Velayudham girl.

Looks like the dainty girl is both thrilled and scared at the same time because she finds a temple built in honour of a living person a little difficult to come to terms with.

Hansika, who has just returned to her hometown from New York after completing her exams, told DC, “I do respect my fans’ love and affection towards me. It also makes me more responsible towards my work. But it is a little scary, equating human beings with ultimate power. Instead they can spend that money in charity and help the poor and needy.”

It may be recalled that Hansika helped an accident victim in Madurai recently when she was there for her upcoming film Oru Kal Oru Kannadi.

SS Rajamouli in to Politics?

SS Rajamouli tweets about Lokpal Bill
Most of the info i recievd regarding lokpal is pertaining to the older 2010 lokpal. govt has drafted a much stronger bill on 4th aug,11
which ofcourse is not without flaws.so many sections of ppl hav so mny opinions/fears/criticism about the new bill.let's get a bit deeper
I am using twitlonger becos the messages are a bit longer.pls bear with me.
on 24th april 2011, foundation for democratic reforms along with transparency international India organised a round table on lokpal. It was attended by about 50 eminent people of impeccable integrity including aravind krejiwal, prashanth bhushan etc.
http://www.fdrindia.org/lokpal/ListOfAttendeesOfRoundTable-2011-04-24.pdf
The study was forwarded to the govt, which came out with a new lokpal in aug 2011 which is much stronger and transparent. But NOT WITHOUT flaws.
Subsequently we had team anna coming out with their own version of jan lokpal. Which again is NOT WITHOUT flaws.
Do u know NCPRI, an org convened by Aruna Roy(not arundhati roy) who is the main person behind RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT being formulated?
Well NCPRI came out with their version of lokpal bill which is more on the lines of April roundtable. They found flaws in govt lokpal and also janlokpal. But, their rational for disagreeing with both versions(sometimes supporting both) is more logical and with insight. see the comparitive study.

Anushka out and Tamannah in Rebel

Raghava Lawrence is currently basking in the success of Kanchana. For those who are curious about what he is doing next, the dancer/director/actor is directing a film with Telugu heartthrob, Prabhas called Rebel. Anushka was cast as the heroine in this film which was delayed as Prabhas was promoting his film Mr. Perfect and Lawrence was busy with Kanchana. But now that the director and the hero have completed their previous commitments, Rebel is ready to resume.

However, the latest is that Anushka has opted out of the project following creative differences with the director. Lawrence wasted no time in handing over the role to Tamannah who is riding the wave of success with back to back hits like 100% Love with Naga Chaitanya and Badrinath with Allu Arjun. Upset with Chiranjeevi's attitude

Upset with Chiranjeevi's attitude, former legislator Vangaveeti Radhakrishna did not join the Congress along with his supporters on Monday. Radhakrishna, son of Kapu warlord late Vangaveeti Ranga, was one of the few leaders who left the ruling Congress to join PRP before the last general elections.

Sources said Radhakrishna was disappointed with the response of Chiranjeevi in ensuring him the party ticket for the next elections. Chiranjeevi is believed to have told Radhakrishna to join Congress unconditionally saying that he would think about his political future at an appropriate time. With Malladi Vishnu being the lone Congress legislator from Vijayawada city, Radharishna suspects that it could be difficult for him to get the party ticket.

PRP nominees Vellampalli Srinivas and Yalamanchili Ravi are legislators from the city and they are likely to get re-nominated in the next elections. With his chances of getting a ticket from the Congress looking remote, Radhakrishna skipped the merger meeting held in Hyderabad.

Though his political aides advised him to negotiate with YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy, Radhakrishna is yet to take a decision as the district in-charge minister Galla Arunakumari, with whom he has good rapport, has reportedly cautioned him against taking hasty decisions.

Meanwhile, local MP Lagadapati Rajagopal is said to have assured him of a ticket. The MP had opposed Malladi Vishnu's candidature in the last election as he preferred Samineni Udayabhanu from Vijayawada Central. Despite assurances, Radha thinks that his political journey has hit a road block and is seriously looking out for other options.

'I won't allow Kiran govt to fall'-Chiru

Chiranjeevi, who joined the Congress on Saturday, said he would not allow the Kiran Kumar Reddy's government fall at any cost.

Alleging that some people who were backing a corrupt leader conspiring to destabilize the government, he said such designs would not succeed as 17 MLAs had joined the Congress to strengthen the party of Sonia Gandhi.

"It would not happen," he assured chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy who was sitting on the dais by his side, reminding him that his erstwhile Prajarajyam Party had averted a similar attempt when the same group tried to topple the government headed by K Rosaiah in 2010. He said, "This time also, his 17 MLAs who joined the party, would not allow this to happen at any cost."

Chiranjeevi was addressing Congress workers and his followers who gathered at Gandhi Bhavan.

"The magic figure (the half way mark in the assembly) was intact even though many Congress MLAs left the party. Nothing will happen to Kiran's government. And it will continue to function without any problem," the president of erstwhile PRP said.

Congress would not be cowed down by the false threats of the MLAs who were backing the power hungry, Chiru said, calling upon his followers that saving the Kiran Kumar's government was their responsibility.

He said, "It is our responsibility to ensure that the government is unaffected by such evil designs."

In fact, the meeting transformed into a Jagan-bashing platform with all speakers daring the YSR Congress president to do whatever he could to topple the Congress government in the state.

The new Congress leader accused the rebel MLAs of trying to kill the mother who gave them life. He cautioned them against support the "king of the empire of corruption". "People are watching you," he warned. Earlier, pradesh Congress chief Botsa Satyanarayana alleged that the Jagan group was trying to purchase MLAs to pull down the government. He alleged that many MLAs were kept against their wish in the Jagan camp.

Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy said the Congress got a shot in the arm now with the entry of 17 MLAs from PRP. He asked Congress workers and leaders to work with new force wholeheartedly. On Monday, 17 MLAs and one MLC from PRP joined the Congress at the meeting attended by Kiran Kumar Reddy, AICC secretary B Krishana Murthy along with former chief ministers K Rosaiah, N Bhaskarao, several ministers, MPs and senior leaders. The merger at the districts and constituency levels will take place in the third week of August.

Ram Charan Tej no more a bachelor boy

“She’s my soulmate,” says Ram Charan Tej, who is about to tie the knot with close friend of almost seven years Upasana.

The wedding will take place in Hyderabad. Since he can take just a weeklong break from his shooting commitments, the honeymoon will be deferred to mid-2012.

Ram Charan agrees he has been denying the rumours about seeing Upasana and kept claiming to be just “good friends”. “We didn’t want to hurt our parents’ feelings. We wanted to make our relationship public only after the consent of both families. I am ready for a new turn in my life,” says the actor.

“We informed our parents seven months ago. Besides giving their nod, they allowed us to spend more time together, either at her place or mine and I got to know more about her. In fact I was floored by her philanthropic activities and feelings for human beings and animals. Gradually, this had an effect on me,” he smiles.

He found her to be the ideal partner even when they were just friends. “When we were in a group, she used to show a personal interest in me and was very supportive. I realised that I could strike a perfect work-life balance and lead a peaceful life with such an understanding companion,” he says. One romantic song that he would like to sing for his fiancĂ©e is Rooba Rooba number from Orange.

About his fiancĂ©e coming from a wealthy family and an equal social standing, unlike many star wives who are simple girls, he says, “I love individualistic, independent, professional girls. I feel nothing will come between two professionals who intend to retain their personal space and freedom. If we don’t try to meddle with each other’s work, then the bond is bound to be strong.”

Is she is a movie buff? “Not a typical movie buff but she loves watching Yash Raj movies which have romance,” he adds.

The actor is a known shopaholic and has recently travelled to Colombo and Bangkok. But he did not buy anything for his fiancĂ©e because “shopping for a woman is a daunting task.”

“However, I personally selected an exquisite earrings set that my parents gifted her,” he adds.

Charan is also busy learning Polo. “It’s an exciting sport, but quite difficult. Even after months of coaching, I am still an amateur,” he says.

Lakshmi Manchu enters B-Town

Actor Lakshmi Manchu, daughter of Mohan Babu, who is making her Bollywood debut opposite actor Sanjay Dutt in Ram Gopal Verma’s Department, is very excited about the way her career is shaping up.

She says, “The movie is turning out to be very nice and working with Ramu is a wonderful learning experience. I started shooting for the film a few days ago and it has been more fun because it has Rana, who is a good friend of mine.”

About working with Sanjay Dutt, she says, “My dad and his dad were good friends so they would meet often. I grew up seeing him work, so being paired with him in a movie is amazing. He has been showing me his tattoos, he has so many of them and my favourite one is the Shiva on his left hand.”

About her role, she says, “My role in the movie is close to what I am in real life. I don’t have the traditional look like in my other movies. I am looking very funky in the film.”

When asked why she decided to make it as an actress in her late 20s, she says, “I have been acting in America for 10 years, but here in India people are seeing me now. I don’t believe in luck, I believe in hard work. When I wasn’t shooting for films in America I used to travel across Oklahoma looking for opportunities to work in theatre, and made short films instead of just waiting around. Many people do not work on their acting skills. They think pretty eyes can make them an actor. But knowing the subject is very important. Any film-maker likes to cast someone who knows the subject.”

“Ramu didn’t choose me because I am someone's daughter, but he thought I would suit the role in Department,” she says.

She also added, “Many people think the career of an actress is between the ages of 16 years to 25 years only, but that’s a wrong conception.”

On juggling between the US and India, she says, “I go to the US every three months or whenever I can find the time. My husband Andy also keeps coming here to spend time with me. It’s unfair of me to ask Andy to settle here in India as he has lived his whole life there.”

She concludes saying, “I am very excited about Department. I hope this project would give me a break into Bollywood.”

The actor, who also believes in fostering strong ties between different film industries, recently signed Sonu Sood for her home production. The film, which stars Balakrishna and Manoj Manchu, also boasts of the most expensive set ever in Tollywood.

Tamannaah to be banned in Kollywood?

Reigning Tamil-Telugu actress Tamannaah is likely to be banned in Kollywood as she agreed to visit Sri Lanka for the shooting her forthcoming Telugu film Rachcha, starring Ram Charan Teja. The crew has already left for Sri Lanka and the shooting is progressing there at a brisk pace.
Several Tamil organizations, including director Seeman-led Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam, have expressed their displeasure against the actress, urging the film fraternity to ban her.
Notably, in a bid to condemn the Sri Lankan government for killing innocent Tamils in the island nation, Tamil film makers had unanimously passed a motion not to go to the trouble-hit country for film shoots.
It may be recalled that Asin faced the same wrath when she went to Sri Lanka for the shooting of her Bollywood flick Ready. She had a narrow escape from a ban as she claimed that the shoots were planned much before the motion against visiting the island nation was passed.

Tollywood loses top slot

The downturn has begun for Tollywood. From occupying top position with maximum number of films produced in the country, the Telugu film industry slipped to second position in 2009. It has slid further to occupy third place in 2010.

Now, the Tamil film industry is ruling the roost by occupying the second position, pushing Telugu to the third. What's more, when the number of Telugu, Hindi and Kannada films decreased in 2010, the Tamil film industry produced more films compared to the previous year.

The annual report 2010 of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is out and it shows a slight decline in the total number of feature films produced in the country. While 1288 films were produced during 2009, the number decreased to 1274 during 2010.

What is worrisome for the Telugu film industry is that there is a considerable decline in the number of films produced in Telugu. In 2009, as many as 218 films were certified but in 2010, the number fell to 181 pulling Tollywood to the third position.

Not very long ago, Telugu films dominated the scene in the country producing the maximum number of films. For instance, during 2005, the Telugu film industry churned out 268 films as against 245 Hindi films, and in 2008 as many as 286 Telugu films were produced. "It is indeed a sad situation for the Telugu film industry. While there could be other factors for producing less number of films, the one real reason that I can identify is that our filmmakers have not been able to churn out successful movies. Only if the films are a success at the box-office, producers will be willing to make more movies," said K Ramasubba Reddy, former president of Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce. Reddy told TOI. "It was time that Telugu heroes took a cue from Tamil heroes about the roles they play", he added.

"Tamil heroes are playing deglam roles and achieved huge success by that. They are acting bold and experimenting with roles by not getting caught in an image trap. When our heroes free themselves from their image trap, more films will be successful and that will spur production of films," Ramasubba Reddy said.

According to CBFC statistics released by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, for the year 2010, there has been a spurt in the production of Bengali films from 84 in 2009 to 110 in 2010. Similarly, Marathi films have gone up from 99 to 116. From 84 films in 2009, the Malayalam film industry produced as many as 105 films, registering an increase of 11 films. From 190 films in 2009, the Tamil film industry produced 202 films in 2010. The worst performance has been by the Telugu film industry which has witnessed a decline of 37 films - from 218 in 2009 to 181 in 2010.

Bollywood is not a priority: Ileana D’Cruz

She is not known for serious roles, although she has dabbled in them now and then.

Tollywood's glamour girl Ileana D'Cruz, better known for her oomph factor, finally breaks her silence on her Bollywood debut Barfee, a murder mystery directed by Anurag Basu, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Ileana admits that she is "having a lot of fun on the sets " but it took her a while for her to confirm. "There were loads of meetings and narrations of the script. Anurag and I had lengthy discussions on different aspects of the character," she says.

The highest paid actor in Tollywood has reportedly cut her remuneration by half to gain a foothold in B-town. As per reports, Ileana has crossed the `1 crore mark and never comprises on her remuneration. "As a rule, I have never denied or commented on my paycheck. People will continue to write a lot of things. Let's just say I am being paid what I deserve," she says.

Prod her about her equation with co-stars Ranbir and Priyanka and Ileana is all praise about them. "I have immense respect for Ranbir and he is fantastic to work with. Priyanka is a very nice person and is pretty easy to work with. There is no friction between us. It's a great team and it's not like anyone is trying to put you down or steal the limelight," she gushes.

Is Bollywood her priority now? "Films are my priority, it's my career," she replies, adding, "I owe a lot to Tollywood and I am not going to turn my back on the industry. Bollywood is not my priority and I'm going to strike a balance in all the industries I work in."

Meanwhile, she has a lot on her plate in Kollywood and Tollywood. Ileana will be soon on screen to play the role of Kareena Kapoor did in the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots, directed by Shankar and titled Nanban, with Vijay, Srikanth and Jiiva in the lead. She says she won't do a copy-paste job of the original and is determined to put in her own unique touches to the role. "It's not as if I've watched her film a million times and am going to do a scene-by-scene remake," she says.

Ileana's starry tantrums on the sets are well documented and according to reports, Allu Arjun refused to work with her in a film directed by Trivikram Srinivas. "Arjun is a very nice person. I don't know where these reports come from. As for the film, I have been in talks with the director, but I haven't signed it as yet," she says.

Mani Ratnam's gift for his wife Suhasini

Mani Ratnam loves to surprise. Not just the audience, but his wife, Suhasini, as well. The ace filmmaker ensured that close friends of the couple were invited to a surprise birthday bash on Sunday night for Suhasini who turned 50 on August 15.

"Most of his heroes, including Madhavan, Suriya and Vikram were present on the occasion and were happy for Mani and Suhasini," says a source.

And there was more! There was a special lunch that the director had arranged on Independence Day, when the actress celebrated her 50th birthday. A source says, "He (Mani) had taken special care in organising the get-together. In fact, he had personally called and messaged all the invitees and made sure they were present, so that Suhasini is happy."

Trisha says yes to Vishal

Vishal is feeling sprightly these days.

The reason — the actor has finally succeeded in getting Trisha for his next untitled film, which will be directed by Thiru.

Apparently, Vishal has been pursuing Trisha right from the Sathyam days. He was enthusiastic about casting Trisha in Sathyam and the actress even accepted an advance for the film, when in an unexpected turn of events, Nayanthara was signed for the film.

Later, Vishal tried once again to rope in Trisha for Thoranai but on that occasion Trisha could not dole out the needed dates. When Thiru, who made Theeradha Vilayattu Pillai with Vishal, wanted to cast the Vinnai Thaandi Varauvaaya star as one of the three heroines, she turned down the project as she did not want to be part of a multi-heroine subject.

Even the Avan Ivan actor approached Trisha for his next offering Vedi (which he is doing with Sameera) and the director of the film Prabhu Deva was also keen to get her on board. But sources said that she refused on the grounds that it was not a meaty role.

Now, the buzz is that, at last, the tall actor finally managed to convince the lady to agree to star in his forthcoming film with Thiru.

The film has Yuvan Shankar Raja providing the music. Sources reveal that it was the mind-blowing script which lured Trisha into saying ‘yes’ to the project.

Insiders tell us that Trisha was keeping a low profile after the recent marriage controversy. Looks as though the Mankatha actress is in no mood to get hitched and is busy listening to scripts from top directors.

Genelia, Rana come closer!

Southern hottie-turned-B-Town boy Rana Daggubati and Genelia D'Souza, who are shooting for their movie Naa Ishtam, seem to have developed quite a soft spot for each other.

News coming in from the sets is that the duo has gotten quite close and can now officially use that oft-quoted but thoroughly misleading line of being "just good friends."

This is the second time that the south actor has been linked to a B-Town actress. Previously, Rana was reportedly close to Bipasha Basu while they were shooting for Dum Maro Dum in Goa. Genie (as the actress is fondly called) has a squeaky clean image and has been with Riteish Deshmukh ever since their first film together, Tujhe Meri Kasam, in 2003.

Even as Genelia's marriage plans with Riteish are being firmed up for next year, Southern industry insiders just can't stop talking about the growing "friendship" between D'Souza and Daggubatti. Wonder what Riteish has to say about this new dosti, hmmm?

Ram Charan supports this -MAA bans outside actors

At the moment, nearly eight to 10 actors in the Telugu film industry are from Bollywood, Kollywood and Mollywood.

Actors from other industries are hogging the limelight and the actors’ guild intends to reverse the situation to safeguard the interests of thousands of artistes in Andhra Pradesh.

“We are going to hold talks with producers to hire more Telugu actors since our motto is to safeguard the interests of Telugu artistes,” says actor Sivakrishna, vice-president of the Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA).

“The bone of contention of 600-odd Telugu artistes is that dream merchants are violating the permissible limit of female leads, villains and other key characters and roping in other language actors for even cameo roles. In the process they are depriving hundreds of Telugu artistes,” rues O. Kalyan, ex-chief of the cine workers union.

Current hottie Ram Charan Tej supports this
“I think this rule should have come a long time ago. This will go a long way in promoting and encouraging local talent. As an actor it’s my duty to see this is followed henceforth,” he adds.

But, B-town star Sonu Sood who is also making waves in Tollywood, argues, “It’s an unfair ruling since many actors from the South are working in Bollywood and vice versa. Talent and popularity of a particular actor should be the criteria that counts,” he reasons.

However, Tamil reigning star Karthi, who is making his T-town debut says, “I don’t know much about the ruling but I would abide by any regulation imposed by Tollywood.”

Ace filmmaker Suresh Babu and chief of Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce, whose son RaNa is making inroads in Bollywood, says, “It’s not easy to implement such stipulations. In fact, tinsel world is shrinking and talented actors are showcasing their skills in different languages. Apart from the suitability for the role, sometimes his talent and popularity could add value to a project. Having said that, I agree local talent should be encouraged too.”

Supporting his son RaNa’s B’wood dreams, Suresh Babu says, “Rana is doing Hindi films since people like his work and keep offering him roles. If they have the same stipulation in B-town, RaNa’s aspirations could go awry!”
